I’m always so preoccupied by nailing the next move or getting the right technique that I can forget to have fun on the pole! I judge myself far too harshly if I can’t get certain moves or don’t have enough strength.
The reality is that I’ll only get stronger, more graceful and have better technique with practice.
So I’m bringing back the fun! I’m seeing pole as a thing I want to do, rather than have to do.
Pole Practice
After having to have a few weeks off training on the pole, I am back! I’m so excited that I can pole properly again that I have a giant list of moves that I want to try.
I bought some new pole clothes to cheer myself up and spent the day walking around in them. I even put on my leg warmers! I know that sounds silly but it made me very happy!
I warmed up on the pole with some spins on both sides before moving on to some inverts. Once sufficiently ready to pole, I began working on my list of moves 🙂
Today I Tried A Spatchcock…
And failed miserably! It was amazing. I watched a lot of tutorials online of how to do this move, thought I’d give it a go and see how far I could get. Needless to say, not very far. I inverted, hooked my inside leg and tried to bring my other leg down the pole. Massive fail… Mostly because you need to hook your outside leg, not your inside!
So.. I tried again, hooking the correct leg this time. I managed to almost get my legs in the right place before I slid down the pole! Not one to give up easily, I kept trying! The worst attempt was sliding head first towards the floor. Luckily I managed to grab on before falling but that was the end of the Spatchcock for the day. Tomorrow I shall try again!
So I Moved On
I kept trying new moves. As usual when you watch others do moves, they make it all look so easy. Then you give it a go and it’s a lot trickier. I went into it all with an open mind knowing that the moves I was going to try were very difficult and not to set my expectations too high. I managed to do my Remi Sit properly for the first time on both sides 🙂 I’ve got a big old bruise on my foot today to prove it!
Doing What I Want
I was trying not to focus too much on making every move perfect or lifting gracefully into each move, but just to enjoy trying. I was trying move after move to just give it a go and see how I got on. It didn’t matter that I couldn’t do every move – I didn’t expect to! I was just enjoying the experience.
All in all, I think I made small progressions. Nothing too significant but I can feel that I’m getting stronger and closer to my goals everyday. If nothing else, that’s enough to make me happy! 😀
