I spent today doing a first aid course and then went pretty much straight to class. So I wanted to have a quick discussion about fear, why I’m scared to do certain moves on the pole and how I get over it 😀
Handstand Training & Brass Monkey Entries
Today I have been strengthening my handstands using some of Charlotte Robertson’s techniques. Check out her tips…
Pole Grip Aides
Here is my collection of grip aides that I have acquired over the years. I try to pole for as long as I can without grip and turn to it if necessary. I know others tend to favour using grips which is absolutely fine. I have tried most of them and definitely have my favourites.
Abandon That Move!
I’m once again about to contradict myself here… I usually go on and on about how practice makes perfect. If you keep working on moves, you will get there and you will nail it. While I definitely believe that is true and live by it, for some moves in the short-term the opposite can be true.
“What’s The Hardest Pole Move You Can Do?”

10 Tips for Building Stronger Handstands
I’ve always thought that I was quite good at handstands – in the same was as I think I’m flexible… until I entered the pole world.
Pole Progress Pictures
I love progress pics. I think they’re really helpful to track your progress and to help keep you motivated. The problem I have, is that I’m really good at taking the before pictures… but not so great at the after. I guess I lose motivation through my project (whether it’s splits, or a particular move) […]
That ‘Oh Crap’ Pole Moment
Of course fear is fear. You can’t really control it too much and I genuinely believe that fear is a good thing, and often keeps you safe.
Technique Is Everything!
I have been able to do a Wrist Seat for quite a while now. I remember a year or so ago I wanted to try the No Handed Seat (pictured) also known as a Violator, among other names. (I’m not a fan of that name, so I stick to mine!) I remember trying it over […]
Making Group Choreography
I love making up choreography for pole. I usually teach a new routine every week, but recently have started working on group choreography. A few years ago I choreographed ‘Spring Awakening’ at my local theatre with quite a big cast. I have done a few different group pieces since then but this is the first […]
